In the song "It's my life" by Bon Jovi, what is that thing called that Richie is basically humming into that distorts his voice and makes that wierd, almost guitar sound? I always wanted to get one of those for my band and I never see it in the guitar magazines I get.
Oh yeah, he performed that at the Live Earth concert- i was there- yeah, he had dome sort of guitar, and whenever he kinda do a mistake with his voice, he turns up the guitar louder to cover it. But yeah it's some sort of guitar. U should've categorized this into Music- Rock and Pop. U would've gotten 15 answers by then. = )

Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack."Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. "She Don`t Know Me" is a catchy mid-tempo rocker. "Shot Through the Heart" turns the hard-rocking pulse up a few notches, with Richie Sambora letting loose on the kind of solo that would be copied by a plethora of L.A. bands. David Bryan`s keyboards, an integral part of the group`s sound, work nicely on the melodic rocker "Breakout." At a time when synthesizers dominated the pop landscape, Bon Jovi used them to gloss a heavy-rock foundation. "Come Back" shows the enormity of the charisma and emotion that Jon poured into his singing. BON JOVI is a great debut by a band in its underground, formative stage; a street album from a band hungry to make it. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

The mid-to-late-`90s found the band releasing lackluster fare, while 2002`s BOUNCE brought Bon Jovi out of their slump. The album opens with pop metal bombast of a kind not heard since 1992`s KEEP THE FAITH, as the band acknowledges the events of September 11th in "Undivided" and "Everyday." The crunchy, razor-sharp guitar playing and production on BOUNCE shines considerable light on Richie Sambora, who`s playing gives any of today`s newbie axemen a run for their money (especially on "Hook Me Up."). Building on that contemporary edge are collaborations with Andreas Carlsson (N Sync, Celion Dion) and longtime contributor Desmond Child. "Joey" is quintessential Bon Jovi storytelling, while "All About Loving You" and "Right Side Of Wrong" weigh in as requisite rock ballads. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Tico Torres.Additional personnel: Hugh McDonald (bass); Michael Dearchin, Melissa Russo, Meredith Russo (background vocals).Producers: Luke Ebbin, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora.Recorded at Sanctuary II Studio, New Jersey.CRUSH was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and "It`s My Life" was nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.Personnel: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals); Richie Sambora (guitar); Michael Dearchin (background vocals).Audio Mixer: Bob Clearmountain.Recording information: Sanctuary II, NJ.Photographer: Olaf Heine. When Jon Bon Jovi went into the studio to record his band`s seventh studio album, he went from budding actor to Jersey rocker to remind the world where his bread-and-butter was. After the initial plan to team up hard-rock production gods Bob Rock and Bruce Fairbairn fell through due to the latter`s death, an audition process was set up with alt-rock engineer Luke Ebbin (Splender) winning the job. The choice was a fortuitous one as here Bon Jovi updates its sound with a smattering of loops and impressive arrangements, without losing the pop crunch of its heyday.Along the way, Bon Jovi tips its collective hat to the teen brigade invading the charts and the glory days of "Livin` On a Prayer" (the talk-box laden, Max Martin co-written single "It`s My Life"), while still writing songs about blue-collar characters full of optimism (the Springsteen-flavored "Two Story Town"). CRUSH also contains the requisite power ballads for Bon Jovi`s starry-eyed female fans ("Thank You for Loving Me," "Save the World") along with glam (the Elton John-inspired "Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars") and grimy ("One Wild Night") rockers.
